Report
Description

An annual analysis of the information received from Australian charities. It presents findings based on information from 53,641 Annual Information Statements submitted by charities for the 2024 reporting period. This edition has two main sections:

  1. an overall analysis of data at a broad charity sector level
  2. a more detailed analysis of data focused on charity size.

Key findings

  • Total sector employment grew, with charities employing 1.6 million staff.
  • More than half of all charities operated with no paid staff, relying entirely on the dedication of their volunteers.
  • Expenses outpace significant revenue growth.
  • More charities report servicing people aged 65 or over.
  • Smaller charities operate with significantly fewer financial resources.

The report is provided with an interactive charity data explorer.
