The Forum for Truth and Recognition was a state-wide truth-telling process for people who experienced child sexual abuse in Victorian government or certain non-government schools before 2000. The objectives of the forum were to:
- support the individual and collective healing of affected victim-survivors
- contribute to a shared understanding among all Victorians of the significant and far-reaching impacts of historical child sexual abuse in Victorian schools
- allow the Victorian Government to learn from the experiences and information shared to better prevent and respond to child sexual abuse in government schools now and into the future.
The report serves as an independent public record of the people who came forward and shared their experiences of child sexual abuse in Victorian Government schools and certain other non-government schools prior to the year 2000 by a relevant employee.
The report centres the voices and experiences of victim-survivors. Based on what victim-survivors communicated, observations are shared on how the government and the community can better prevent and strengthen the response to child sexual abuse at schools, now and into the future.
The report is provided with an easy read guide and an interactive version.
