Description
Community based asylum seekers, or 'refugee claimants', arrive in Australia with valid documentation and apply for asylum after arrival. While the difficulties they experience are well understood by those who work to support them, until recently there has been little documented evidence of their circumstances. This report documents findings from a small scale qualitative research project into the experiences of community-based asylum seekers while awaiting a decision on their application, and the issues faced by the community organisations that support them during this time.
