Description

This discussion paper considers the impacts of a rapidly changing communications environment on the existing communications accessibility framework.

Summary
The Department of Communications has issued a consultation paper: 'Communications accessibility: 2016 and beyond' and seeks submissions on the future of accessible telecommunications options, including reviewing the role of the National Relay Service and providing accessible services to deaf and hearing impaired people.

The Government says that the consultation process will consider the impacts of a rapidly changing communications environment on the existing communications accessibility framework and identify possible reforms to support the sustainability of the NRS and improve communications options for people with a disability.
