Description

This submission to the Senate Employment, Workplace Relations and Education Committee in its inquiry into the Termination of Employment Bill 2002 examines the latest government attempt to amend unfair dismissal laws. This Bill is goes beyond changing the rules for small business. Using the Commonwealth's corporations power in addition to its other powers, the Bill would increase the coverage of the federal regime from 3.9 to 6.8 million employees (or from 49 per cent to 85 per cent of employees). It may be a first step in achieving a nation industrial relations scheme for Australia.
