This publication reviews the current trends in how workplace-based delivery of training is distributed, including where entire programs are delivered in this way. Additionally, data from the Student Outcomes Survey was used to model the effect of a student receiving workplace-based delivery on employment and achievement outcomes.

This research examines the merits of vocational education and training (VET) for secondary school students (VfSSS) in preparing students for work or further training from the perspectives of students, parents, industry stakeholders and employers. It also explores the models of provision used in government and non-government school sectors.

Employment-based training (EBT) is training for paid employees within a work setting, related to their role, and provided or supported by employers. This report explores alternative approaches to employment-based training—cadetships and internships, higher apprenticeships, and on-the-job structured training such as mentoring—and their implications for VET content and delivery.

Based on a review of the literature, this paper explores current definitions of quality in vocational education and training, the factors that impact on the quality of delivery and the various measures used to make judgements about it.

This is the first of two reports which examine how the VET sector initially responded to COVID-19 through the increased use of online training delivery and begins to explore possible implications this might have on future training delivery modes.
