Recurrent expenditure on school education in Australia is over $44 billion each year, around $36 billion of this provided by governments. These are considerable sums, more often than not expressed as a cost rather than an investment – especially when it doesn’t always seem to deliver noticeable improvements in student results.

This study reveals that Bhutanese refugee parents held high expectation that their children would attend high school upon resettlement in Australia. The study also reveals that some Bhutanese refugee young people were denied enrolment to high school because of their age.

Regardless of who wins the election, Brazil faces the significant challenges of rekindling economic growth to ensure that the social gains that were secured since the end of the high inflation in the late 1990s are not eroded by Brazil’s old nemeses: inflation and poor fiscal policies.

The Productivity Commission has recommended extending assistance to families with nannies. International experience shows that there are good and bad ways to help families with this kind of care.
