The purpose of this report is to estimate the impacts that the closures of six coal-fired power stations could have on wholesale and retail electricity prices by 2030.

Torrential rains along the east coast of Australia during February and March 2022 have been blamed on climate change. Specifically, a narrative has developed suggesting that rainfall is becoming more extreme. However, the research outlined in this report does not support this claim.

This study builds on previous IPA research by analysing the potential economic and employment impact of a ban on all new coal, gas and oil projects – which at a minimum would be required for Australia to meet its net zero emissions by 2050 commitment.
