This year’s 'Family Matters' report is the third to be published following the development of the new National Agreement on Closing the Gap, which was entered into in July 2020. The report suggests that only limited progress has been made to redress over-representation and the drivers of child protection intervention.

This study, based on focus groups and interviews with 53 representatives of government departments, NGOs and Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations across Australia, examined the numbers, needs and outcomes of Indigenous care leavers, and associated program and policy supports.

This review found a diverse and exciting field of scholarship, that while not as extensive as its heterosexual counterpart, provides some clear insight into the contemporary experiences of rainbow family formation in Australia.
