Women experiencing domestic and family violence are ten times as vulnerable to legal problems as the rest of the population, according to this research. In a twelve-month period, respondents who had experienced domestic and family violence had twenty legal problems on average, compared to only two legal problems for the rest of the population.

This paper was developed to support Legal Aid NSW undertake a review of their client intake and triage services. It provides a conceptual basis for further investigating and developing a systematic triage service model.

The foundation was engaged by the Department of Justice NSW to investigate the quality and utility of each court and tribunal’s data in informing policy and practice. This report focuses on Supreme Court data.

This research used population-level data from the Legal Australia-Wide (LAW) Survey to examine whether the prevalence of problems with fines is higher for disadvantaged groups than others. It also investigated whether people’s responses to fines problems, and the outcomes they achieve for these problems, varies by disadvantage.

The Domestic Violence Unit (DVU) of Legal Aid NSW began delivering services in January 2016. This evaluation involved quantitative analysis of Legal Aid NSW administrative data, and interviews and focus groups with stakeholders. It examined key questions such as whether the DVU is reaching disadvantaged clients and delivering appropriate services.
