An unprecedented crisis in freedom of expression is manifesting all over the world. This year's report provides an overview of current challenges to creative freedom and freedom of speech in particular as a result of armed conflict, political unrest and digital repression.

In this research note, the New Zealand Initiative argues that the Fair Digital News Bargaining Bill, which would require large digital platforms to negotiate payment for news content with New Zealand media companies, is based on flawed premises and risks significant unintended consequences.

This strategy provides a framework to strengthen and expand Australian broadcasting and media sector engagement across the Indo-Pacific. Activities under the strategy aim to foster a vibrant and independent media sector, present an accurate understanding of modern, multicultural Australia, and support deeper people-to-people engagement.
