This paper examines current or proposed changes to the sharing economy, regulations hitting the labour hire industry, proposals to tackle ‘wage theft’, and the introduction of industrial manslaughter laws, in the context of the rapid growth of the Victorian public sector since 2014.

This inquiry was initiated to examine options for greater involvement by private sector life insurers in worker rehabilitation, including support after return to work, with particular reference to the interaction of Income Protection (IP) insurance and Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) insurance with State, Territory, and Commonwealth legislative and regulatory frameworks.

This report provides a comprehensive summary of the 2018 National Return to Work survey responses. The survey is undertaken on a biannual basis and compares the return to work experiences and outcomes of injured workers against a number of variables, including returning to work, workplace rehabilitation and employer support.

The human impact of an industrial death is catastrophic and far-reaching. For the families and friends of those individuals killed at work, the terrible and profound human cost and associated consequences they must suffer is lifelong.

The scope of this review is confined to examining the work health and safety compliance and enforcement arrangements. It is not a policy and legislative review.
