This Strategy provides a framework and long-term priorities that will guide health entities in improving health and wellbeing outcomes for people with rare disorders over the next decade, improving system responsiveness and support for people living with rare disorders as well as for service providers.

The Government Policy Statement (GPS) on health 2024-27 is the public statement of what the New Zealand Government expects the health system to deliver and achieve, and how success will be measured, monitored and reported. The GPS sets the direction for the health system as a whole, and incorporates the government’s priorities.

For the first time in Australia, the Productivity Commission has sought to measure healthcare productivity growth in a way that accounts for improvements in healthcare quality. While we have spent more on healthcare, this research shows this has been more than outweighed by improvements in outcomes delivered by the healthcare system.

This issues paper is part of the Scope of Practice Review, and has been released to provide an overview of the evidence collected to date. It also outlines the options for reform based on the sum of this evidence, and describes the direction and next steps for the review.
