The Australian Strategic Policy Institute's International Cyber Policy Centre has combined open-source data with the collection and analysis of new satellite imagery to assess the current status of settlements in northern Rakhine State, Myanmar, which were burned, damaged or destroyed in 2017.

In 2018 and 2019, Amnesty International has found the United States government executed an unlawful and politically motivated campaign of intimidation, threats, harassment, and criminal investigations against people who defend the human rights of migrants, refugees and asylum seekers on the US–Mexico border.

The refugee population under UNHCR’s mandate has nearly doubled since 2012. In 2018, the increase was driven particularly by internal displacement in Ethiopia and asylum-seekers fleeing Venezuela. The proportion of the world’s population who were displaced also continued to rise, as the world’s forcibly displaced population grew faster than the global population.

Coinciding with Refugee Week 2019, the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) has released this report, which demonstrates how libraries across Australia are supporting new arrivals.

These principles are grounded in evidence and informed by good practices from other countries, as well as from Australia’s past. They provide real-world examples of how, and why, Australia can develop a more humane, sustainable and manageable approach to refugee policy.
