Medium Term Accommodation (MTA) was introduced in December 2019 to support National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) participants who need somewhere to live while waiting for their long term housing solution. The aim of this project was to examine the operation of MTA and the development of the MTA market since its introduction in December 2019.

This scoping study focuses on the existing housing stock available to the 4.4 million Australians with disability who live in the community in houses, duplexes, apartments, townhouses and units that they own or rent. Many of these people have a disability with particular needs that would benefit from effective housing modifications.

This article explores why the disability sector needs an aligned approach to measurement, how the Disability Housing Outcomes Framework was developed, and how it will be piloted while ensuring that data collected is meaningful, practical, and will guide better decision making.
