This report examines the exceptional fragmentation and lack of coordination of responses to hate crimes, hate speech and hate incidents across the country.

This position paper is based on the AHRC's and the VEOHRC’s collective experience and research in the area of freedom of religion and human rights. In addition, the two Commissions convened joint roundtables in Sydney (11 June 2019) and Melbourne (27 June 2019) on the topic of serious harms on the basis of religion.

This report provides important evidence for all stakeholders involved in tackling hate in Victoria, including policy-makers, law enforcement agencies and community organisations, to better understand how to address community reporting barriers.

Hate groups have been exploiting the tax code to raise money through philanthropic organisations, particularly by using Donor-Advised Funds that allow donors to fund hate while gaining a tax advantage and remaining anonymous. This report summarises a convening held to begin addressing the problem.

Hate speech is recognised as a growing online issue which can negatively impact a person’s mental health, general wellbeing and online engagement. This research report is the result of collaboration between the eSafety Commissioner in Australia, Netsafe in New Zealand and United Kingdom’s Safer Internet Centre.
