The Mapping the Digital Gap project, established through the ARC Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision-Making and Society (ADM+S), in partnership with Telstra in 2021, is the first comprehensive study of remote First Nations communities’ participation in, and access to, the digital economy. This report provides an update on the research conducted to date.

Measuring Australia’s digital divide: the Australian digital inclusion index 2023


Digital inclusion is about ensuring that all Australians can access and use digital technologies effectively. The Australian Digital Inclusion Index (ADII) uses survey data to measure digital inclusion across three dimensions of Access, Affordability and Digital Ability. The 2023 ADII continues the longstanding reporting of digital inclusion through these three measures.

This research shows that firms that switch from DSL to fibre/cable-based broadband experience increased productivity growth. Growth is highest in the year immediately following adoption of high-speed broadband.
