The 2018 Victorian Gas Planning Report (VGPR) Update provides information about changes in the supply demand balance over the next five years (2018-22, called the outlook period) and the Victorian Declared Transmission System (DTS) since AEMO published the 2017 VGPR in March 2017.

This report looks at what has transpired over the period since the closure of Hazelwood and how its contribution to meeting Victoria’s electricity demand since it closed was covered. The report also considers the contribution that new large-scale renewables under construction and demand side activities will make over the coming four years.

State governments have spent up to $20 billion more than was needed on the electricity grid, and households and businesses are paying for it through their power bills.

The panel has reviewed the performance of the National Electricity Market (NEM) in terms of reliability, security and safety over the 2016/17 period, in accordance with the requirements of the National Electricity Rules.
