This report highlights how education and care service providers and regulators adopted new strategies to support and protect children, staff and families from the risks presented by the 2019–20 bushfires and coronavirus (COVID-19) global pandemic.

Research has developed the first, national snapshot of disaster resilience to help governments, local organisations and emergency services improve their communities’ resilience to natural hazards. This summary report outlines the detailed research behind the Australian Disaster Resilience Index.

This literature review focuses predominantly on prescribed burning, which has been used in Australia as the preferred method to reduce fuel loads and fuel continuity and thus has received the most attention in the scientific literature. The paper also canvasses literature related to mechanical fuel load reduction and livestock grazing as fuel management techniques.

Collaborations were developed and research carried out that reveal that current state-of-the-art climate models and assessments all underestimate the risk of multidecadal “megadrought” in the State of Victoria, and that there is a substantial risk of future droughts much longer and more severe than any of the last 150 years.

This paper develops a framework to measure the exposure to systematic risk for pools of asset securitizations and measures empirically whether current ratings-based rules for regulatory capital of securitizations under Basel II and Basel III reflect this exposure.
