We have a voice, hear us: settlement experiences of refugees and migrants from the Horn of Africa
Despite their experiences of persecution and forced migration, many refugees from the Horn of Africa are settling successfully and working not only for themselves, but to assist their communities here and in Africa. This report looks at their experiences.
A major attribute of refugees and migrants from the HoA is their resilience and adaptability. This is evident in the way refugees seize the opportunities they are given in resettlement, while carrying with them the horrendous experiences of their past. There are, however many who are facing major challenges and problems in the process of settling into a new and vastly different country and culture.
This report provides a unique opportunity to hear directly from refugees and migrants from the HoA of their experiences of resettlement and integration in Australia, as well as their concrete recommendations for how to better support their resettlement and integration.
This report was commissioned by the Horn of Africa Relief and Development Agency.
