Description
No Jab No Play legislation was introduced in Victoria on 1 January 2016, with the aim of increasing immunisation rates and averting vaccine-preventable diseases for young children in the community.
The review has identified that immunisation rates have improved for Victorian children aged 1, 2 and 5 years since the legislation was implemented in 2016.
Risk reduction in vaccine-preventable diseases in Victoria’s under-5 population is a key outcome of the legislation, which is reflected in age-appropriately vaccinated children, a steady increase in childhood immunisation rates and target coverage immunisation levels being reached for children aged 1 and 5 years.
The structure of the review includes:
- assessment of the legislative aim of improving immunisation rates, while supporting children in vulnerable families to access early childhood services and be vaccinated
- identification of strengths, weaknesses, and unintended consequences of legislation implementation
- recommendations to improve legislative reform, including addressing unintended consequences, compliance and understanding.
