Description
The Trans and Gender Diverse Health and Social Needs Assessment was the first community survey of its kind which aimed to document the current realities of the health and social needs of trans and gender diverse (TGD) people in Australia, including investigation into the social determinants of health, such as housing, employment, income, education, relationships and discrimination.
The survey was completed by 699 TGD people from across Australia. The cross-sectional survey was developed in partnership with Positive Life NSW (Positive Life) and the Gender Centre Inc. (The Gender Centre) and was led, steered and owned by TGD community members represented within the TGD Expert Advisory Group.
Recommendations:
- Implementation of TGD inclusive policies across multiple sectors
- Ongoing accurate data collection and research of TGD people
- Specific and developed TGD training
- Increased allocation of government funding
- Development of resources
- Trans-led and community owned TGD awareness training
