Aged care - the way forward
The Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety was a watershed moment in Australia’s history, highlighting the reality of how we as a nation care for our older citizens.
Released in March 2021, the Commission's final report documents confronting personal stories that highlight the broken state of Australia’s aged care system, including examples of neglect, abuse, under-resourcing and staff shortages in Australia’s residential aged care homes.
This document is the Australian Aged Care Collaboration's formal response.
To ensure older Australians are given the respect and support the community expects, this report recommends the Australian government should immediately focus on 15 priority areas in four broad groupings:
1. Human rights, access and choice
2. Workforce
3. Transparency
4. Sustainability
