Victoria’s first whole-of-government LGBTIQ+ strategy provides the vision and plan to drive equality and inclusion for Victoria’s diverse lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and gender diverse, intersex and queer (LGBTIQ+) communities within all aspects of government work over the next decade. The strategy notes that being LGBTIQ+ is just one part of who people are. These challenges can be even more difficult when people are also dealing with stigma or discrimination for other parts of who they are. This includes their cultural identity, disability or where they live.

The strategy contains four priority areas:

Priority area 1: Equal rights and freedoms

• Recognition matters – making birth certificates inclusive

Priority area 2: Equitable, inclusive and accessible services

• Equality is everyone’s responsibility

Priority area 3: Visibility to inform decision making

• Changing attitudes with LGBTIQ+ voices

Priority area 4: Safe, strong and sustainable communities
