Anglicare Australia rental affordability snapshot: national report April 2021

Description

After a year of volatility and shock, Australians are facing a rental market that has never been less affordable.

Every year, Anglicare Australia surveys rental listings across Australia to see what it is like for people on low incomes to rent a home. They do this by taking a snapshot of the thousands of properties listed for rent on realestate.com.au. They test whether each rental listing is affordable and suitable for people on low incomes. The snapshot is released every year in April.

The 2021 snapshot surveyed over 74,000 rental listings across Australia and found that affordability has crashed to record lows. Anglicare Australia is calling on the federal government to tackle housing affordability in its next Budget.
