On 12 July 2022, the Assistant Treasurer and Minister for Financial Services, Stephen Jones, announced the Australian government’s intention to publicly consult on improving the regulation of consumer credit in Australia.
This consultation paper examines the regulatory challenges of emerging financial products, with a particular focus on Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) and the appropriate regulatory approach to maintain the benefits of accessing credit while ensuring consumers are adequately protected.
