Charging our future: national electric vehicle charging strategy for Aotearoa New Zealand 2023-2035
This strategy was developed by the Ministry of Transport, with support from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, and outlines the New Zealand government's long-term strategic vision for a national electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure that can support a growing EV fleet, while helping New Zealand meet its climate commitments.
The Emissions Reduction Plan (ERP) sets New Zealand's commitment to increase zero-emission vehicles to 30%t of the light vehicle fleet and reduce emissions from freight transport by 35% by 2035.
The strategy is aimed at helping New Zealand meet these targets by providing a coordinated approach to addressing the barriers to the roll-out of charging infrastructure.
The release of the final strategy was informed by consultation earlier in 2023.
