Description
The Pathways of Care Longitudinal Study (POCLS) is the first large-scale prospective longitudinal study of children and young people in out-of-home care (OOHC) in Australia. Information on safety, permanency and wellbeing is being collected from various sources.
This statistical report focuses on a cohort of children and young people in OOHC who were in residential care at the time of their POCLS interview. This cohort is referred to as the residential care cohort.
This report focuses on the following questions:
- What are the demographic characteristics of the children and young people in the residential care cohort?
- How is the residential care cohort faring in terms of socio-emotional wellbeing, social competence, verbal ability, and non-verbal reasoning?
- What are the perspectives of the residential care cohort and their caregivers on aspects of residential care?
