Position paper
Description
In anticipation of the 2025 federal election this paper argues that delivery of housing for all Australians in cities and regions must be made a national priority. It calls on all political parties to:
- ensure home ownership is achievable for all Australians by expanding and supporting the Home Guarantee Scheme, Help-to-Buy, First Home Super Saver Scheme and making superannuation available to assist people secure a home deposit and home loan
- support the delivery of a diverse mix of housing types by encouraging the private housing market, understanding that the construction of apartments is critical to boosting the supply of rental properties and committing to the delivery of more social and affordable housing,
- deliver economic settings that allow residential construction businesses to thrive and that keep the dream of home ownership alive.
The paper offers a number of proposals to:
- address skill shortages
- remove the barriers to housing supply
- establish financial settings to encourage home ownership.
