Strategy
Description

In 10 years, 9 out of 10 jobs will require a post-secondary qualification, with around half requiring a university degree, and 44% requiring a vocational education and training (VET) pathway. This strategy has been designed to prioritise NSW's skills needs while also expanding the education and career options available to students.

The strategy sets out a framework to enable stronger collaboration between government and universities that targets workforce needs, student pathways, equity and effective public policy. A key focus of the strategy is prioritising regional workforce development, addressing critical skills shortages in areas such as early childhood education, aged and disability care, nursing and health related professions to support local economies and communities.

The strategy was developed in partnership with the state’s public universities. It outlines principles for collaboration and sets out four shared priorities and a series of actions.

Shared priorities

  1. Support current and future NSW skills and workforce needs.
  2. Build capabilities to navigate post-school and lifelong learning pathways.
  3. Improve equity outcomes in higher education.
  4. Enable the use of shared assets, expertise and research for the public good.
