The diplomatic tug-of-war between China and Taiwan is expected to intensify in the Pacific in the foreseeable future.

Climate change is a major risk to sustainable development and is threatening global efforts to eradicate poverty. This strategy document underpins the Australian government's climate investments and assists the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) to meet Australia’s climate finance commitments.

Humanitarian action has been a mainly international endeavour, where power continues to lie with donors, UN agencies and large INGOs. This report aims to inform a more local humanitarian action, reflecting on the evidence from several case studies, as well as the interviews and discussions that occurred in the final stage of this research project.

Navigating the increasingly complex and changing financing landscape, the report includes new analysis of the wide range of resources going to recurrent and protracted crisis response countries.

This paper argues that food and water security is weak in the Solomon Islands, but due to the history of state breakdown and ethnic violence, most international development assistance seeks to address a wider range of issues.
