This paper examines the current federal framework guiding the use of AI in Canada and the challenges specific to the federal scientific community. This paper was developed for the ninth cohort of the IOG’s Leadership Development Program in Science and Innovation (LDPSI).

This inquiry examined the nature and extent of international digital platforms operated by large overseas-based multinational technology companies—so called ‘Big Tech’— exerting power and influence over markets and public debate, to the detriment of Australian democracy and users.

Building on interviews with more than 70 stakeholders, this report explores the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) to foster employment for people with disability, accounting for both the transformative possibilities of AI-powered solutions and the risks attached to the increased use of AI for people with disability.

This literature summary is the first output of Digital Platform Regulators Forum (DP-REG)’s joint work in exploring relevant digital platform technologies and their regulatory implications. Each DP-REG member is also separately considering more specific harms stemming from AI relevant to their respective mandates.

This working paper considers the benefits, risks and harms of large language models and how the technology intersects with the regulatory remit of each member.
