In anticipation of the 2025 federal election this paper argues that delivery of housing for all Australians in cities and regions must be made a national priority. The paper offers a number of proposals to: address skill shortages, remove the barriers to housing supply and establish financial settings to encourage home ownership.

This paper examines New Zealand's housing policy reforms since 2011, which focused on streamlining planning processes and increasing density. Preliminary analysis show the success of the measures and suggest that Australia could rapidly improve housing supply and affordability by taking New Zealand's lead.

The survey captures the perspectives of organisations operating across multiple service sectors, including homelessness, domestic and family violence support, financial counselling, and emergency relief. Their insights paint a concerning picture of a system under strain, where rising costs and a lack of affordable housing are creating insurmountable barriers for vulnerable people.

This scoreboard ranks and benchmarks each State and Territory by their ability to counter critical housing supply issues, in particular in reference to the goals set out in the 2022 National Housing Accord. Ten policies and mechanisms contribute to the ranking. South Australia leads the ranks, with the Australian Capital Territory ranked lowest.

A national analysis highlighting homelessness as a critical social problem that has recently escalated. It draws links to labour market and housing market trends, and to social security and affordable housing policy developments. The research investigated the changing scale and nature of the problem and assessed associated policy and practice developments and debates.
