This project assesses the economic impacts of a more decentralized population growth strategy that prioritizes greater regional growth in and around each of these four metropolitan regions. As part of this assessment, we analyse the high-level relationship between a city’s population size and its performance across different economic, and social and quality of life indicators.

There is widespread awareness that overseas students are a large and growing presence in Australia. This report examines the consequences of growth in the overseas student presence for the labour markets and for the congestion issues now afflicting Sydney and Melbourne.

Victoria is growing faster than at any other time in the state’s history and Melbourne is forecast to soon become Australia’s most populous city. Victoria has a remarkable opportunity to harness its growing population and thrive in an increasingly competitive global economy. Realising this transformational opportunity will require deliberate planning and careful management.

Melbourne is undergoing a high rate of population growth, when compared with international cities in developed countries. This paper documents the impact of population growth on income earning capacity and some social outcomes.

Population growth and density data is presented in map and table form for all 93 NSW electorates. The Parliamentary Research Service has also published Trends in NSW population growth, which examines long term population trends in NSW.
