New vehicle technologies and fuels will drive the future of road transport in Australia. This document sets out the Australian Government’s direction and practical actions that will encourage the private sector to commercially deploy low emissions road transport technologies at scale.

This report contains the draft advice of He Pou a Rangi – the Climate Change Commission. It includes advice on the first three emissions budgets and the government’s first emissions reduction plan. Together, these lay out the course for reducing emissions in Aotearoa and set the direction of policy that Aotearoa takes to get there.

This research recognises that changes in the energy systems to reduce climate risks cannot be achieved by government policy alone. The private sector and corporations, especially large corporate emitters, have an important role to play.

Rental properties are less likely to have solar PV installations than owner-occupied properties, resulting in higher electricity bills and greenhouse gas emissions. This paper suggests that government programs that coordinate and change the incentives faced by landlords, renters, property managers and solar installers can help address this imbalance.

In order to mitigate against global climate change, this paper argues that net-zero is inevitable, by 2050 or even earlier. To get there, the Australian economy will need to undergo a tremendous structural transformation.
