This report includes a focused review of housing in British Columbia and a key informant study mapping the housing options available to people with disability. The report shows how the province has been able to move away from group homes, creating more diverse community-based housing options for people with disability.

This research project examines the effectiveness of Australia’s supported accommodation services in meeting the needs of unaccompanied children and young people aged 12 to 24. It proposes principles to guide policy and practice toward a better system. A strengthened system of care is required to better align services to unaccompanied young people’s needs.

By linking aged care and National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) data, this report provides unique insights about younger people living in residential aged care. Key findings include that funding for specialist disability accommodation is used by less than one in three of the NDIS participants who have it.

Mental health and homelessness are deeply interconnected, yet temporary supported accommodation (TSA) services struggle to address this intersectionality. This paper critically analyses TSA services, exploring the question: ‘How can TSA be improved to better support individuals experiencing homelessness and mental health concerns?’ It explores how integrating psychologically informed environments within TSA could enhance their capacity.

Currently, Individualised Living Arrangements (ILAs) are an under-utilised housing and living support option for National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) participants. This environmental scan examines safeguarding in Individualised Living Arrangements (ILAs) and similar shared living models across Australia and internationally. The findings highlight areas to strengthen safeguarding in Australia and inform future policy improvements.
