This report reviews the landscape of evidence institutes, and explore if a new evidence institute in Australia, focused specifically on disadvantage, would help break cycles of disadvantage.

The draft priorities outlined in this report set out the ‘what’ and ‘why’ for Australia’s science and research efforts over the next decade. Public feedback will help the Australian government continue to develop and refine the priorities in ways that support their implementation.

The science and research sector has always had a responsibility to earn and retain trust through transparent systems of accountability, and through producing work of quality and integrity. This paper aims to provide clarity and context about the process of science to contribute to better public debate and understanding.

This discussion paper has been released to generate public input into the formation of the Academy of the Social Sciences' Decadal Plan for Social Science Research Infrastructure 2023-32.

This report considers the different approaches taken by higher education institutions, students, academics and policy-makers towards the relationship between teaching and research.
