This discussion paper offers a unique practitioner perspective on quality research use. It outlines considerations for teachers, school leaders, system leaders, researchers, and research organisations in relation to increasing and improving the quality use of research in schools.

The Australian Research Council is responsible for assessing the quality, engagement and impact of Australia’s university research through its two assessment programs, Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) and Engagement and Impact (EI). This report sets out a range of recommendations designed to enhance the value of ERA and EI.

This summary draws on quantitative findings from the Q Project's first survey of educators, which was administered online to teachers and school leaders between March - September, 2020. In total, 492 practitioners from 414 schools across four Australian states completed the survey: New South Wales, South Australia, Victoria and Queensland.

The report provides lessons and recommended practices for all those funding and designing social science research for development and seeking to maximise its impact beyond academia.
