Pacific Islanders in regional Victoria: final project report | 1.69 MB |
As Pacific seasonal workers take up jobs in areas like the Sunraysia district of Victoria, Australia, what are the implications for long-established Pacific Islander communities in the region? What trans‐local and transnational networks do Pacific Islanders in the region maintain? What issues do Pacific Islanders face in mobilising social capital and accessing public services? What are the experiences and future aspirations of Pacific Islander youth in the region?
This major research project, led by Professor Helen Lee of Latrobe University, explored the socio‐economic status and well‐being of Pacific migrants in rural northwest Victoria, focusing on the towns of Mildura and Robinvale. The project’s final report makes a series of recommendations on employment, education, youth and immigration rights.
