Description

Twenty-six per cent of people experiencing homelessness in Victoria are aged between 12 and 24 and on any night at least 6,000 young people are homeless. Thousands more young people will experience homelessness each year until decision-makers commit to ending youth homelessness.

This report elevates the voices of young people with lived experience of homelessness who have generously shared their stories and the solutions they believe can end youth homelessness in the next ten years.

Recommendations:

  1. Create a fair private rental market that works for young people.
  2. Commit to an ongoing program to build enough social housing to end the waiting list.
  3. Provide proper support for young people at risk of experiencing homelessness.
  4. Immediately raise the rate of Newstart and Youth Allowance.
