The 2019 Whitlam Oration was delivered by UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, at the Seymour Centre (Sydney) on October 9, 2019.

In her oration, UN Human Rights Commissioner, Michelle Bachelet, spoke to the many challenges facing our world today and the need for governments and people to recognise that “human rights are not impractical philosophical ideals. They are sound policy choices, which build strong, healthy, secure, peaceful and thriving societies.”
