Partnership in action: the EPA’s mātauranga framework

Publisher
Conservation Environment New Zealand
Description

The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has developed a framework to help its decision-makers to understand, test and probe mātauranga when it is presented in evidence.  This framework is outlined in this document.

The EPA has commissioned a multi-year mātauranga programme of work. Its primary goals are to:

  1. Enable well-informed decision-making;
  2. Ensure the EPA understands the issues and implications of mātauranga for its decisionmaking processes;
  3. Increase the understanding of mātauranga across the EPA

Mātauranga is broadly defined as a body of knowledge, experience, values and philosophy of Māori.
