The Tasmanian Department of Health is developing the next Tasmanian Suicide Prevention Strategy, on behalf of the Tasmanian government. The strategy, which will be the third of its kind, will set the vision and priorities for preventing suicide in the State for the next five years.
While we are learning more about suicide in Tasmania and making important progress, it remains an issue in Tasmania and the impact is profound. Each life lost to suicide is a tragedy felt deeply by individuals, families, friends, and communities.
The third strategy will align with the national policy agenda and broader work under Rethink 2020, Tasmania’s strategic mental health plan, while being guided by the lived experience and professional expertise of the Tasmanian community.
