Statutory Review of the Online Safety Act 2021: issues paper
The Australian Government has opened a public consultation as part of a review of the Online Safety Act 2021, and is calling for individuals and stakeholders to have their say by making a submission. This Issues Paper includes a series of questions to help guide submissions.
The independent statutory review is being conducted to examine the effectiveness of the Act’s regulatory approach. It will determine whether changes are needed to make sure Australia’s online safety laws remain fit-for-purpose. This includes examining issues such as online hate and new harms raised by emerging technologies such as generative artificial intelligence.
Feedback from this consultation will inform recommendations of the review, ensuring they reflect Australians’ expectations and experiences online.
The consultation closed 21 June 2024.
