A summary of the key activities and operational undertakings by the National Anti-Corruption Commission since it commenced on 1 July 2023.
Key points
- 4,117 referrals assessed (90% of the 4,686 received).
- 58 preliminary investigations launched to determine if a referral warrants full investigation, with 24 concluded (22 finding no corruption issues arose).
- 37 corruption investigations – 12 of them joint with other agencies – have been initiated and 5 of these finalised.
- 32 current investigations, including 15 relating to senior officials, 14 to procurement and 8 to former or current parliamentarians.
- Of 32 open referrals taken over from the Australian Commission for Law Enforcement Integrity, 7 convictions have resulted and 4 matters remain before the courts.
- A wide range of corruption prevention and education, advice and engagement activities undertaken.
- Growth from 154 staff at commencement to 228.
