Description

Australia has either too much or too little water. This paper provides eight priorities for water for the 48th parliament. It calls on the Australian federal government to finalise the National Water Agreement, to be bolder with water management and unify the states and local governments to sustain and manage Australia’s water into the future.

Priorities

  1. Water needs to be a national priority
  2. Commit to finalising the National Water Agreement
  3. Support investment in water to meet housing targets
  4. Diversify supply and improve environmental outcomes
  5. Close the Gap on water for First Nations communities
  6. Future-proof critical supply chains and a skilled workforce
  7. Circular not linear, invest in science and technology
  8. Enhance regulation and risk management.
