Discussion paper
Description

A discussion paper reviewing the Disability Standards for Education 2005 to make sure they are supporting students to access and participate in education and training. The Standards are for education and training providers and explain how education must be inclusive for students with disability and help providers follow the Disability Discrimination Act.

As part of its response to the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability (the Disability Royal Commission), the Review will focus on three key areas.

  1. How well the Standards are being implemented.
  2. What more can be done to support inclusive decision-making and complaints handling.
  3. Whether responsibilities for assessment authorities and course developers are clear.

The Review invites the following groups to share their experiences and give feedback about how the Standards are working:

  • students with disability, their families, carers, associates and advocates
  • people and organisations with responsibilities under the Standards including education providers, educators and education leaders.

Consultation closes on 21 November 2025
