Report
Description

The report provides the latest estimates of Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions to 2040. It shows how Australia is tracking against its 2030 and 2035 emissions reduction commitments. It does this by examining the potential impacts of policies and measures to reduce Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions.

The 2025 emissions projections include Australian, state and territory policies and measures which have been implemented or where detailed design is well progressed.

The report shows:

  • emissions will be 3% below the 2021–2030 emissions budget, that is Australia overachieves on its 2030 emissions budget
  • emissions will be 42% below 2005 levels by 2030
  • emissions must be further reduced to meet the 2035 targets advice.

The report is accompanied by a methodology document.
