Description

This report brings together insights from a collaborative workshop on shaping the future of Western Australia's (WA's) economy in May 2025, organised by UWA Public Policy Institute in partnership with Oxford Economics Australia. By combining stakeholder perspectives with data-driven modelling and scenario testing, it provides a comprehensive, evidence-based framework to inform policy and investment decisions that will drive skill development, foster innovation and diversify WA's economy for decades to come.

As a largely resource-based exports economy over the last 20 years, WA stands as an economic powerhouse. Since the Global Financial Crisis in 2008, and, more recently, the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been increasing political and policy interest in expanding and strengthening the resilience of the WA economy via diversification, innovation and upskilling.
