Description
The Hoops 4 Wealth (H4W) program aimed to enhance the financial capability and resilience of people on low incomes living in the Northern Territory. H4W was a healing-centred and trauma-informed financial capability program bringing together First Nations practice, wisdom and neuroscience to support wellbeing, re-empowerment and resilience.
This report describes the results of a developmental evaluation of the program which found strong positive outcomes for participants in the following areas:
- Everyday money management and healthier choices.
- Saving.
- Planning and setting short and longer-term goals.
- Making sense of meeting obligations to their family, their community and themselves.
- Learning about financial rights and responsibilities.
- Taking little steps towards resilience.
Key enablers of program success included:
- H4W’s healing-centred and trauma-informed approach.
- Promoting a sense of accomplishment.
- Respected facilitators and a relational approach.
- Supporting engagement by focusing on wellbeing.
- Developing learning and employment pathways.
- Developmental funding and capacity building through partnership.
